Sometimes it’s good to give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done so we’ve done just that. We created an epic video social media campaign for the Saffery Rotary Walk – the 39 mile challenge to walk around the beautiful cliffs of Guernsey and we’re pretty proud of ourselves.
We’ve worked with Saffery Champness for many years. Of course they’re well known for their excellent fiduciary services but they have also gained much recognition for their efforts in Guernsey’s community.
The mammoth walk is now synonymous with the Saffery name and this is where we have focused much of our efforts. Getting involved in promoting this major Guernsey event really gets our creative juices flowing and it’s always lovely to be involved in a campaign that helps so many people in the island.
2017 has been a monumental year for the walk – it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary on the island and has broken a lot of its own records.
We really went all out this year and called on our expertise in social media and video production in the lead up to the big event. Video content has exploded on social media. Take Facebook for instance – Facebook’s algorithm now promotes video ahead of other types of content. Over four billion videos are watched on Facebook every day. Video is eye-catching, engaging and is a great way to breathe new life into events and life moments.
So what better way to show people what’s done with the money raised by the walk and what each charity does with their share?
During the campaign from September to June, we created 15 videos which brought to life what the amazing local charities are going to do with the money raised by the walkers taking on the gruelling 39 mile walk. Check out the impressive stats from the videos on Facebook:
Each video was very different and unique to each charity and it’s so hard to pick favourites from the campaign but here are a few that achieved the most reach:
The Guernsey Sailing Trust
The Guernsey Sailing Trust is one of the 28 local charities to receive funding from the 20th Saffery Rotary Walk. We've been chatting to Rich Klein on how the money will be used. With only 10 days to go until the walk the committee is asking people to raise as much money as possible for these fantastic charities. #SRW20

One of our goals was to reach 1,000 likes on Facebook to celebrate the walk’s 20th anniversary– we smashed this target in May and now have over 1,170 likes on the page thanks to our use of exciting visual content.
So what is there to learn from this campaign? People want visual content; it’s not enough anymore to create a simple post and photo on social media and expect your audience to engage with it. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram, video content on social media is a necessary tool in the PR toolkit.
